It finally happened. I’ve been bitten by the Instagram Reels bug and if I’m being honest it’s getting pretty serious. My Yoga Reel ideas are buzzing, we’re practically BFF’s and speak several times a day. Now, it can feel awkward and even narcissistic at times to try justifying showing up on Instagram Reels as Yoga Teachers, but your potential students want to consume content quickly AND now there is a way to meet them there and serve your business at the same time.
What Are Instagram Reels
Instagram Reels are 15 to 60-second clips that allow you to serve your audience with pieces of bite-size content. Don’t get confused between Instagram Reels and Instagram Stories. Even though they sound a lot like each other, they have some big differences. The biggest difference is that Stories last for 24 hours on your feed while Reels last forever. When you create Reel content that is educational, entertaining or empowering, your Reel can gain traction even up to 3 weeks after you post it!
Why Yoga Teachers Should Try Instagram Reels
Simply put they are fun to watch, easy to create, and most importantly, they empower Yoga Teachers to TALK about yoga without SELLING their classes, workshops, courses, and retreats. It’s easy to fall into the salesman role when you’re out there promoting your yoga business, the problem is, people don’t go on Instagram to be sold to – they go on Instagram to switch off, for a laugh or to learn something new. On top of that, Reels have a longer shelf life than anything else on the Gram, so if you’re going to choose to do one thing on Instagram, creating Instagram Reels should be up there.
How To Plan Your Yoga Reel Ideas
If you’re just getting started, it’s easy to be inspired by every Reel you see. But if you don’t plan your yoga reel ideas properly, you’ll burn out before you begin. Planning your Reels will be a huge part of your success.
Here are 5 ways you can plan your Yoga reel ideas and create scroll-stopping content.
#1 Hit the Explore page
Getting inspired is one of the best ways to find awesome Yoga Reels Ideas. Hit the magnifying glass at the bottom of your screen and get scrolling. When you find Reels that inspire you, or you want to put your spin on save them so you can come back to them later.
#2 Choose Your Topic
There’s no point in creating for creation’s sake. Your content should have a goal and that goal should be leading towards the big things you want for your yoga business. Having a clear understanding of who your ideal student is will help you create content that speaks to their bones. When you know who they are, what their struggles are, and what their biggest desire is, you’ll master the art of Reel making. Ask yourself what can I share that can help my audience with what they’re going through?
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Loneliness
- Weight
- Building a strong immune system
#3 Choose Your Music
Once you choose your topic, find a song that fits what you’re trying to convey. If you can’t find music in the Instagram Business account, change your category to “entrepreneur” and you can access the whole library. Click here for a quick tutorial.
#4 Make Time
Recording Reels takes time, so it makes sense to batch your content together and film in one go. Get your outfit changes and your Reel topics ready so that you can do this quickly. The best way to make the most of your time with your yoga reels ideas is to keep a saved folder in your phone of Reels that inspire you. This will save you time when creating your Reel so you don’t have to re-think what you want to share. You can save the links of the Reels you enjoy into your spreadsheet and come back to it when you’re ready to film.
#5 Keep backups
This is really important. If you film your Reels on Instagram, save your draft to your phone. (Note this will save without sound, but at least you have your footage). If you have to restart your phone or your Instagram app, your drafts will disappear into digital dust and your reels will once again become yoga reel “ideas”. Don’t be afraid to film in your actual camera and use an editing app like In-shot or Kinemaster to edit your footage.
There you go lovely yogis, creating Reels can take time, so make the time worth your while. Get inspired and plan ahead so when you’re ready to shoot, you’ve got everything you need in place.
